Task 1
1. Some countries now take measures to attract a large amount of foreign tourists for the tourism site. Discuss the advantage and disadvantage of attracting a large amount of foreign tourists in tourism site, give examples to illustrate your points.
In my view, attracting a host of foreign tourists to visit the tourism site is helpful to boost tourism and improve the local economy. Local people are able to increase their income and enhance their living standards. More visitors means more job opportunities and the unemployment issue will be tackled in this way. On the contrary, if there’re more foreign visitors, the primitive lifestyle of local residents might be influenced and even changed dramatically. For instance, some local people who used to make a living by agriculture or making traditional handicrafts may start to run a hotel or a restaurant so the local culture cannot be well preserved.
2. Is it important to have good manners?
Of course, it’s very important. First of all, you only have seconds to make a good impression. We meet thousands of people in our lives and most meetings are brief and superficial, so not everyone is as patient as your parents. A decent haircut, clean face and good manners will be noticed and have a significant effect on your life. Secondly, as the writer of “the game of throne” puts it, courtesies are women’s best weapons. Even if you have done something wrong, if you appear gracious and grateful, much will be forgiven, just like Sansa in the TV series, although her father and brother are regarded as traitors, she never forget her manners and is spared by her enemies. So having good manners is important, and in some cases it can help you enormously.
3. Your friend has to work a lot. Please suggest a hobby to him to help him spend his weekend more delightful.
I suggest that my friend should join a hiking club which organizes hiking on weekends, which I consider will bring great benefits to my friends’ physical health and psychological health. To begin with, hiking is definitely a beneficial outdoor activity for my friend to keep fit. After working hard during weekdays, he needs a way to free himself from the heavy workload and he’ll be able to strengthen his stamina, which will definitely give him more energy to cope with his job. Moreover, having a tighter connection with nature tends to bring him a good mood and hopefully he’ll forget his worries and stress from work.
4. A friend of yours always gets up late in the morning and misses his morning classes. The professor has told him that this behavior will affect his grade. What advice would you give him and why? Please include details and examples in your explanation.
Well, the advice I would give to my friend is trying his best to change his lifestyle so that he could attend every morning class. He could do some sports in the afternoon, which is beneficial to his health. If it’s hard for him to fall asleep at night, it will be helpful for him to listen to some soft music. If he keeps skipping classes, it is quite possible for him to fail it. It is a waste of time spending the entire morning in bed. We spend much money for our education. It also squanders our parents’ money. However, as a student, our task is to study well. Without great academic performance, it will be extremely difficult to find a decent job in the future.
